Northern Spikes
Looking for something a bit different? Not many people take advantage of the great rolling roads north of town. This is another great option when you have limited time as there's a ton of different ways to lengthen or shorten your route.
Another neat feature of the roads north of town is that there's a lot of rollers. We all know that there's no real "epic" climbing in the area, but this ride will let you hit a bunch of good short ones.
With lots of stores to reload your bottles and food supply at, you'll be a happy rider in the north!
Suggested Route:
1. Head out of town on Division Street going North towards Little Cataraqui Conservation Area
2. Turn left onto Burbrook Road
3. Turn right onto Cole Hill Road
4. Turn left (west) towards Elginburg on Unity Road at the T-intersection
5. At the top of the 1st climb turn right (North) on Leeman Road and follow the road until it ends at Spooner Road E. Note that this is just after a hard right turn which almost looks like a T-intersection.
6. Turn left onto Division St. north for a couple of hundred yards then turn left again onto Old Boys' Road. Be sure to be very careful of traffic here. You're best to ride the gravel shoulder and double-check behind you before making the left
7. Follow Old Boys' until it ends at a T-intersection. Turn left onto Holmes Road and travel for about 1km to the 4 way stop.
8. At the 4-way stop turn right (North) on Latimer road. Follow Latimer all the way into Inverary stoplight at Division Street.
9. Cross Division street and follow Latimer Road as it bends left (North) at the fork a few hundred yards after the intersection, and becomes Round Lake Road
10. Follow the road for several km's until it ends at Battersea Road (Montreal St). Be careful here, as there's a sharp downhill curve to the stop sign.
11. Turn right (South) onto Battersea Road and follow it over the hill and across the flats to Sunbury.
12. Turn right (west) in Sunbury on Moreland-Dixon Road and follow the road across the valley back to Inverary. Just before the intersection (stop sign) at Division street, you can turn left (south) onto Holmes Road.
13. Follow Holmes Road to the T, and bear left. Follow the road south, then east as it turns back to Division street. Crossing Division will take you back to Old Boys' road. From there you can work backwards along the route back to Kingston.
For a more direct return trip, either follow Division or Montreal straight back to town.
